What I Wore to a Christening

13 March 2015

Recently I went to my youngest niece's christening and I thought I would show you what I wore. The day was lovely and the food was delicious! After the church, the party bit was in an italian restaurant so we had a feast of different pasta and pizza, as well as other italian goodies and cake!

I wore this dark green velvet dress from Missguided with a jewelled belt which I found in a charity shop. The belt has pink, white, blue and green stones in so I thought it brought the green dress and pink coat together perfectly! It also added a bit of sparkle to an otherwise plain dress!

It was a bit chilly on the day so I chose to wear my oversized pink coat (as seen in a lot of my recent OOTDs) Although I wouldn't usually put pink and green together, I think these shades work really well! I also finished the look with my paisley Jeffrey Campell dupes!

Dress - Missguided - £19.99

OOTD - Pastels and Chunky Boots

15 February 2015

Hello!! Recently, I visited a fashion exhibition at Bowes Museum. The exhibition showed fashion made with feathers and included pieces from Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Prada and Gucci. It was a really windy and quite cold day, but I wanted to show off my new boots (and rest of the outfit!)

As you can see from the photos it was really windy! So in most of my photos I am laughing at my hair getting in the way of my face whilst the photos were being took!

I wore my favourite slumpy, oversized pink coat from Primark. I have mentioned this in a few of my other OOTD posts, but it is just so comfy and warm! And it adds a pop of colur into my otherwise black and white outfits! I also wore a fluffy white cropped jumper and high waisted jeans from Topshop and these amazing chunky boots from Missguided.

These boots are surprisingly comfortable considering they are really high. The platform is  4.5cm and the heel is 10.5cm, meaning that the height of the show is actually 6cm, which is a pretty wearable height for everyday use. They are also very lightweight as the soles are made from a thick foam type material rather than rubber, like other chunky boots, meaning they aren't giving you a workout as you wander about! They are also in the sale! Bonus points!!!

Coat - Primark - £25
Jumper - Topshop - £20 (sold out : alternatives here)

Just a really quick look at an outfit I put together. To be honest, Its an outfit I put together for Styling at University, but it is also kind of an Outfit Of The Day right?
Anyway - Enjoy!

I'M BACK! This time I definitely am too! Its been like a month since the last time I blogged as I'v just been really busy (and a bit lazy) but I'm here and I'll stick properly to blogging as often as I can!

Here's what I wore today, its been surprisingly warm (well not warm but not freezing!!) for it being January in England, so I took the opportunity to wear my favourite jeans ever!

With the jeans, I also wore my Alaxander Wang for H&M crop top. I loved all of his collection and managed to get my hands on a dress, a sports crop top and this top.

Obviously if I was to go outside, I'd put on a coat. I wore my oversized pink one from Primark. Unfortunately I haven't got a picture with that as I wore it to go into university, but I'm pretty sure you'll have seen the one I mean. Everyone and their mam has this coat!

Top - Alexander Wang / H&M - £29.99 (sold out)
Jeans - Vintage - £12
Belt - Newlook - £6 (sold out : alternative here)

Henna Patterns

2 December 2014

A few weeks ago, in a post, I showed a picture of some recent henna I had done and since I have had a few requests to make a blog post all about my henna, so here it is! Its going to be an image based post mainly, just so you can see what I like to do, but I will add in a few little bits of info here and there! Enjoy! :)

(Also, I'd like to say that I am in no way trying to turn Indian culture into a fashion statement or anything. I am not trying to offend anyone and I don't want any arguments about cultural appropriation in my comments. I simply find the traditional henna patterns beautiful and really enjoy doing it.)

I buy my henna from a user on Ebay who makes all her henna fresh. I also always get natural brown henna.
There are two types of henna; black henna and brown/natural henna. Black henna has chemicals in to give it a dark black colour and also to make it last longer. This is the type which you hear horror stories about, people can have severe allergic reactions to black henna, which in turn can cause them to have reactions to hair dye and cause blisters and stuff. Brown/natural henna is made from henna powder (made from a plant) which is them mixed with essential oils (such as tea tree), sugar and lemon juice. People don't really have allergic reactions to this as it is all natural, unless of course they are allergic to sugar etc…

I did this one on my friend Rachael for one of her belly dancing shows.

Here's the seller I get it from. She always has a special offer on, which is you get a free cone of henna for every one you buy. So if you buy 2, you get 2 free and so on.

On my friend Megan

To make up my patterns, I look images up on google to find inspiration. I don't copy directly from them though. I like to use parts of lots of different images and join them together. I draw them on the skin using a felt tip and then simply go over it in henna when I'm happy with it!

Huge rose on my sister! Love this one!

Cute little symbols are nice to do too!

Once the henna is applied to the skin, its name changes to mehndi. All the traditional patterns, from the simple paisley and swirly ones, to the mandalas and suns all have different meanings. They are all about happiness and finding inner light etc. Just google it to find their proper meanings, they are all so pretty!

Sun and moon on my sister's thigh

Instead of doing work, just do henna ;)

Giant paisley piece on my sister!

Even just simple dots are cute!
Henna once on, will last around a week to 10 days. After you've put it on the skin, leave it to dry for at least two hours. It takes time as it needs to dye the skin. Then, if you want it darker, wrap you hand, or whatever its on, in cling film. This will trap in the heat, causing it to dye more. The hotter and longer its stays on, the darker and longer it will last!

Sorry about the image quality. They were all taken on my phone, then put on instragram, and then were put onto this post! If you'd like to know anything else about henna/mehndi just ask!
